CHALLAH BAGEL DOGS

Seriously it doesn’t get any better than this! Inspired by the Modern Jewish Baker cookbook by Shannin Sarna, make these any time you need to win points with your friends and family, the best of all worlds combined into one, part funfair ball game treat, part Shabbat all delicious combined into one!

Ingredients:

  • any challah dough you like

However many packages hot dogs or vegetarian hot dogs you like (I usually do 18 hot dogs and I need about ⅓ of my challah dough recipe)

  • Pot of boiling water
  • Heaped teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Everything bagel topping
  1. After making your challah dough, cut 35g – 40g (1-1.4 ounces) pieces of dough and let them rest for about 5 minutes, roll the dough pieces into thin log ropes, enough for however many hot dogs you plan on covering. Wrap the dough strip around the hot dog leaving both ends sticking out a bit.

  2. Preheat oven to 190℃ (375℉).

  3. Put the pot of water to boil, once boiling add the baking soda and salt.

  4. Once all the hot dogs have been wrapped, dip them into the boiling water, and boil for 30 seconds, place the boiled hot dog dough parcel on a lined baking tray, immediately sprinkle with topping and repeat with remaining hot dogs.

  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
